This wedding was a nice change of pace, most of my weddings are in the summer or fall. For Beth and Pete’s wedding they went in December which not only gave us the chance to work with snow but to incorporate Christmas lights and theme in their wedding photography!
For their big day they decided on a Friday, since it’s a weekday they made it easier for their guests and held the ceremony at 6:30pm which was especially helpful for those who would have otherwise needed to take time off of work. The challenge for the photographer though is that it get’s dark at 4pm and we obviously can’t be taking pictures too late at night. So, we did most of their couple pictures a few hours BEFORE the ceremony! My wife and I did the same thing on our wedding day so I knew exactly how to set it up. We did a romantic “first look” and followed with both “Christmasy” indoor pictures as well as ones outside in the cold and snow. Between shoots we had Beth wear a coat while we got things setup then I would say “ok jacket off!” and quickly snag a shot, it was a lot of fun considering I was able to be totally bundled up while everyone else had to freeze. 😀
The walk down the isle was lit completely by candles and the flower girls were actually glitter girls and did a fantastic job of covering every square inch of the church in bits of glitter. In keeping with the glitter theme all the guests gathered outside at the end of the night with little containers of rice and glitter and showered the newlyweds as they went out to their car, it was really fun!
